This production is coming right up! Love Letters is a play by A. R Gurney that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Using the literary letter writing form sometimes found in novels, they sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards – in which over nearly 50 years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives. Our cast includes Cindy Turcotte and Joe Blackwell, experienced performers with Open Book Players and other area theatres. This is a fundraising event for the OBP Scholarship and is being performed in memory of Andy Tolman and Larry Vinal, two active participants in OBP productions and active Board members. Tickets are $12.00 and can be reserved or purchased by calling Johnson Hall at 207-582-7144 or visiting their website at http://www.johnsonhall.org.

Here is our wonderfully talented and experienced cast for our upcoming production of “LOVE LETTERS” by A. R. Gurney on February 8th at 7:30 p.m. and February 9th at 1:00 p.m., Logan Stage of the Johnson Hall Opera House! HELP US SPREAD THE WORD!!!
Cindy Turcotte (Melissa)…I have been a part of Open Book Players since it began in 1996. It is and has been such a pleasure to work with all of the board members who have graced us over the years. One of my greatest pleasures is getting to bring to life the words that are written on the pages of such wonderful author/illustrators works. Secondly, getting to work with amazing people who work so hard to offer you the joys of Readers Theatre. In the past, I’ve been president of Monmouth Community Players, and even acted in a few of their shows. Open Book Players is where my heart is. I have wanted to perform this piece, “Love Letters”, for many years and am overjoyed to be a member of this cast.

Joe Blackwell (Andy). Joe has most recently appeared with Open Book Players in last fall’s Reading Rumpus and Something Wicked This Way Comes. He has worked with various theater groups in Central Maine and Northern Virginia for 45 years, receiving a number of acting awards. Some favorite roles have been John Proctor in The Crucible, Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew, Oscar in The Odd Couple, Max or Tito in various productions of Lend Me A Tenor, Starbuck in The Rainmaker, Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest, Greg in Sylvia, Mitch in Streetcar Named Desire, and Ben Franklin in 1776! Joe would like to dedicate his performance to the memory of Larry and Andy, both of whom he had the great honor of sharing the stage with.
