My name is Reese Marquis, I am a freshman at Oak Hill High school. I love drama and it has been an amazing hobby for me. This production has been an amazing experience for me and I’m so glad I chose to do this. It has dragged me into the world of Readers Theater and I hope to do more in the future.
Kathleen Brainerd has been with Open Book Players for over 15 years, appearing in “The Laramie Project,” “Reading Rumpus, “Requiem,””Picture of Dorian Grey” and many others. She has also performed extensively in several other community theaters: favorite parts include Imogene in “Four Old Broads,” Romaine in “Witness for the Prosecution” and Dottie/Mrs Claggett in “Noises Off.” She travels far and wide in her work and lives in West Gardiner with her husband, two dogs and a cat. It was simply a wonderful Reading Rumpus experience today! The cast performed well, the authors/illustrators were there and enjoyed seeing their children’s books “come to life”. Books were sold (by Mockingbird Bookstore) and autographed and the audience also enjoyed the performance. If you did not get a chance to see the performance, do buy the books…they are simply fabulous!
The Reading Rumpus event is almost here! Time to meet our last children’s book authors and illustrator being featured at our Reading Rumpus event on September 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Hall Opera House in Gardiner…LYNN PLOURDE, DONN FENDLER, AND BEN BISHOP
Lynn Plourde (www.lynnplourde.com) is the author of more than twenty-five picture books, including “Only Cows Allowed” and “The First Feud”, an original fable about Mount Katahdin. Her books have been included on several “Best Books” lists. Lynn’s work on “Lost Trail” with her friend, Donn Fendler, was her first graphic novel. She lives in Winthrop, Maine.
Donn Fendler was born in NYC in 1926 and raised in nearby Rye, NY. He joined the navy in WWII as a Sea Bee serving time in the Pacific and China. He then graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Donn returned to serve his country as an Infantry Airborne Officer in the U.S. Army, retiring after 30 years with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He would split his time between Clarksville, Tennessee, and Newport, Maine. Through the years, he gave countless talks at schools, libraries, and to Scout troops about his survival tale recounted in the 1939 book, “Lost on a Mountain in Maine.”
Ben Bishop is a graphic novel creator, toy designer, and illustrator from Maine. Ben wrote, illustrated, and self-published his first book, “Nathan the Caveman”, in 2008 followed by several other smaller works. He is currently working on his next graphic novel, “Something Like Falling”, and doing artwork for the Ardden/Atlas entertainment comic book, “The Stand-In”, written by comics legend Jim Krueger.
